William T. Ayton

William T. Ayton is a British artist who lives in the Hudson Valley, NY. His work explores myth and the darker side of the human soul.

Much of his work is monochrome: either drawings or black-and-white paintings. Recently (in 2004 & 2005), he has been working on color versions of black-and-white images, as well as new color paintings, as can be seen in the gallery here.

His work has been exhibited widely in Europe and the USA. Recent exhibits have included several group shows in galleries in the Hudson Valley area.

He has a series of paintings based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which has toured extensively (see gallery pages 1 & 2).

Various works have been reproduced in publications such as Tamaqua, Tripwire, The Wilson Quarterly, The Citizen and The New York Times. Publications in 2005 include Terra Nova's "Writing The World: On Globalization" (MIT Press), Pulse magazine (cover & interview), and Direct Art magazine (volumes 11 & 12).

One recent project in development is "The War Room" -- an installation of 4 wall-sized paintings depicting the faces of war. This has now been exhibited in both New York City (via chashama) and Poughkeepsie (Shahinian Fine Art), New York (2004). Further exhibits are in the planning stage.

Ayton is currently working on a series of painted works depicting The Holocaust, in collaboration with a composer.
